The reverse design features the Royal Coat of Arms of England from the Stuart period. It is a shield which is quartered, depicting in the first and fourth quarters a smaller shield quartered itself, with the three passant guardant lions of England repeated twice and the fleur-de-lys of France also twice; in the second, the rampant lion and double tressure flory-counterflory of Scotland; and in the third, a harp for Ireland. The reference to France reflects the English monarchs’ claim to the throne of France, which they never actually attained.<\/p>\n
