Description
The obverse features a design very similar to the one found on the Aztec Calendar Stone. The center of the design features Tonatuih, who was the sun deity of the Aztecs. The face of Tonatuih has three distinct rings around it that feature symbols of Aztec history. The symbols on the calendar represented how the Aztecs measured days, months, and years. There is also an outer border around the edge of the bar that features an Aztec design.
The reverse features the left portrait of Cuauhtemoc, the last Aztec Emperor. Cuauhtemoc reigned until 1525 when he was killed by the Spanish. He is cemented in Mexican history as the last ever Aztec emperor. Above him is “ONE TROY OUNCE” and below him are his name and “.999 FINE SILVER”
