Description

The Mustang 2024 silver bullion coin embodies the spirit of the American West – untamed and romantic, a land of unbridled passion and adventure. It is minted out of 31.1 g (1 oz) of 999 fine silver, with a diameter of 38.60 mm. The coin is struck to proof-like matt-gloss quality, with a deep relief and high level of detail.

The motif depicts the personification of the Old West the way people from all over the world remember it – the mustang. These majestic creatures are the descendants of purebred horses brought over to the New World by Spanish conquistadors around the 15th century. Those animals that managed to escape over the years formed feral herds. That way the species that had died out on this continent around 8000 – 10,000 years ago once again became part of the local wildlife and even a symbol of the region history remembers as the Wild West.

The Mustang is depicted galloping through the wide expanses of the Great Plains. The movement captured in the illustration emphasises the strength and beauty of this creature, and its mane – swept back by a powerful gust – hints both at its speed and the freedom it has come to represent.

The obverse depicts King Charles III’s effigy, the face value of the coin – 5 NZD, the country – Tokelau, and the year of mintage – 2024.
