Description
Touchdown (TD) is the primary way to score points in American soccer. It is scored when a player carries the ball into the opponent’s end zone or catches it in the zone. A touchdown gives a team 6 points. After the touchdown, the team can make an extra point (kick for 1 point) or two-point conversion (entering the ball again into the end zone for 2 points). This is the most valuable scoring action in the game. Touchdown requires precise cooperation of the whole team, both in attack and in protecting the player with the ball.
The silver coin is given the form and shape of the ball used in American soccer, which gives it a dynamic and unusual look among traditional numismatic issues. The reverse features an image of a player running on the turf with a ball under his arm, capturing the characteristic movement and dynamics of the game. The player’s figure has been depicted in detail, with the muscles and details of the sports outfit clearly marked, which emphasizes the realistic and sporty nature of the coin. The obverse, on the other hand, is reminiscent of a classic soccer with the sewing placed in the center, while at the same time incorporating all the elements characteristic of coins: the denomination, the year of issue and the emblem of the issuing country – Samoa. The combination of the sporting theme with traditional numismatic symbols makes the coin not only a collector’s item, but also an interesting tribute to American soccer.
